We inherit expectations from family, culture, community, school, work, and countless everyday experiences.
Some make social life easier. Some preserve traditions we genuinely value. Others may influence our decisions long after their original purpose has disappeared.
Today’s article asks us to examine those expectations rather than automatically accept or reject them.
Consider four questions:
Where did this expectation come from?
What useful purpose does it serve?
What does following it cost me?
Would I choose it today?
What social convention have you questioned?
Did you keep it, modify it, or leave it behind?
