Conversation rarely provides an obvious signal announcing:
“Your turn.”
Instead, we interpret several small cues.
A thought sounds complete. A pause appears. Eye contact changes. Gestures settle. Someone turns slightly toward us.
Then we respond.
Today’s discussion asks a simple question:
How do you recognize when another person has finished speaking?
Do you rely mostly on pauses, eye contact, tone of voice, body language, or something else?
Have you also noticed that conversational timing changes among family, friends, coworkers, and different social settings?

Group conversations are harder for me than one to one conversations. Several people may recognize the same opening, so allowing someone else to speak can sometimes improve the discussion.
