Sometimes we work very hard to find an answer.

Then someone asks a different question, and suddenly the entire problem looks different.

Curiosity can begin when we recognize that our understanding may be incomplete. That moment can be uncomfortable. It can also become the beginning of learning.

In Is Curiosity More Powerful Than Intelligence?, we explore why knowing more and questioning more can work together.

When has asking a different question changed what you thought you already understood?

Writing regularly has taught me that having a topic and having a useful question are very different things. A topic gives me somewhere to start. A good question gives me somewhere to explore.

I especially value the moment when research does not fit my first interpretation. That is often where the more interesting learning begins.
