Many friendships begin without planning. Someone says hello, a conversation develops, and two strangers discover something they share.
Have you ever met a friend, colleague, neighbor, or important person through an ordinary conversation? What made you comfortable enough to continue talking?

I have learned that listening often creates better conversations than trying to find something impressive to say. Genuine interest gives another person room to become part of the conversation.
I tend to be slightly introverted, although I enjoy meeting new people. Sometimes the hardest part is simply beginning the conversation.
There have also been a few social gatherings where I nearly left with the potted plant in the corner as my newest friend. Fortunately, people usually become more interesting once I say hello.
