Defensiveness does not always appear as anger. It can emerge through interruption, justification, withdrawal, blame, or an immediate need to prove something.
Sometimes we are protecting more than our position.
We may be protecting our competence, reputation, independence, fairness, authority, or sense of being right.
Can you recognize what you tend to protect during a difficult conversation?
