Many phones can tell us exactly how long we looked at a screen today.

That number cannot tell us whether we were learning, working, communicating, creating, gaming, or repeatedly checking notifications.

It also cannot tell us what those activities replaced. An hour online might replace sleep or movement. It might also provide reading, education, creative work, or an important conversation.

Discussion Question:
What tells you more about your digital habits than the number of hours you spend with screens?

I use screens for writing, research, communication, publishing, and creative work.

Counting those hours alone tells me very little. I learn more when I notice whether my attention stayed with one meaningful activity or repeatedly moved among unrelated ones.

What digital activity receives your most focused attention?
