How many responsibilities begin in your mind with “I have to” or “I need to”?
We may use these phrases automatically. Yet they can place our attention entirely on obligation.
Consider replacing both with:
“I will.”
The responsibility does not disappear. You still have work, appointments, household responsibilities, exercise, family commitments, and countless other demands.
The difference is intention.
Then take the practice one step further and ask:
“Why will I?”
You may not want to exercise today, but you want greater strength and mobility. You may not want to prepare dinner, but you value sharing a meal with your family.
You may not want to complete a difficult project, but you value honoring your commitments.
The immediate task and the desired outcome are not always the same.
This approach does not require pretending difficult responsibilities are enjoyable. Instead, it asks us to recognize what we value behind the action.

The question “Why will I?” may be the most important part for me. It connects an inconvenient task with the reason behind completing it.
I appreciate that this idea does not require pretending every responsibility is enjoyable. Some tasks remain difficult, but identifying their purpose can change how we approach them.
