We learned them by watching someone work, listen, solve problems, remain patient, accept responsibility, or recover from a mistake.
Advice still matters. Sometimes we need someone to explain what we do not understand.
But seeing an idea practiced can provide information that words alone cannot communicate.
Think about someone who influenced how you work, communicate, learn, or treat other people.
What did that person consistently do that taught you something important?

Mistakes can also become examples. Someone who recognizes an error, accepts responsibility, and corrects it may teach accountability more effectively than someone who simply talks about accountability.
Advice and example do not have to compete. The strongest approach may be explaining a principle clearly and then allowing our behavior to demonstrate what we mean.
