Healthy skepticism is one of the most practical thinking skills we can develop. It is not about distrusting people or assuming the worst. It is about slowing down long enough to understand before reaching a conclusion.
Our brains naturally rely upon mental shortcuts to process the enormous amount of information we encounter every day. While these shortcuts usually serve us well, they can also encourage us to accept familiar information without examining the evidence supporting it.
