Over the past several years I have experienced one of the most rewarding and challenging journeys of my life by becoming an independent author through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).

Writing a book is only the beginning.

After the manuscript is complete comes editing, cover design, formatting, publishing, building a website, creating podcasts, maintaining social media, engaging readers, and somehow finding time to begin the next book. I have discovered that independent publishing requires wearing many hats, often learning entirely new skills along the way.

Every book teaches me something new.

Some lessons have been technical. Others have been creative. Many have involved marketing and discovering how difficult it can be to introduce a new book to readers in today's crowded marketplace.

Despite the challenges, I would not trade the experience.
